The bridge spans over 100 metres and will have a minimum life span of 70 years. It is able to withstand severe weather conditions. Attention has been given to putting in place extensive protective and river training work to keep the river to its existing channel. $25M has been spent to desilt the channel upstream from the Easington Bridge downstream as far as the Ford. Construction of the Bridge became necessary following the destruction of a previous one by flood waters in May, 2004
